Rally Program Update

December 2011

The Juneau School District recently announced some changes in the RALLY (Recreation, Arts, Learning, and Leadership for Youth) child-care program. Since that announcement, the district has been meeting with a group of parents to look at the program, its current financial situation, and to investigate potential solutions.

As a result of those meetings, some further decisions have been made about the program.
As of January 3, 2012, the one-hour before school RALLY will close at most elementary schools, as originally planned. The one site that will remain open is Harborview, where a greater number of children attend the morning program.

The other change, to combine the Mendenhall River Community School RALLY with the Glacier Valley program, will be delayed until February 6, 2012. The district will continue to meet with a small working group of parents and administrative staff to explore possibilities for keeping the MRCS afternoon RALLY program at MRCS. If the group is unable to find a solution that is fiscally viable, the program will be consolidated as planned beginning February 6, 2012.
