Message from Principal Hinderberger

Dear Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break! We are already into the fourth and final quarter of the school year.  I would like to express gratitude to all parents and family members. Your ongoing support of your child’s learning is vital to their educational success.

I hope you encourage your child to read and write frequently, ask questions, observe carefully, participate in conversations, and share their perspective.  Please continue to ask your child to show you their work from school, support them in making connections between school and home, and praise them for their progress and hard work.

April can be an unpredictable month when it comes to weather. Please help remind your child to dress appropriately for recess and upcoming field trips. Please stop by the lost and found to claim any items. Additionally, the increased daylight can make for late evenings.  Please help your child get to bed early so they are well rested for school.

Keep in mind that during the month of April students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th will participate in state-mandated testing (AKSTAR and the Alaska Science Assessment) beginning the week of April 4th.

Beginning on April 4th, masks will be optional at MRCS and other JSD schools.  Please know that masks will still be available to anyone that would like one. I encourage you to have a conversation with your child about this upcoming change.  It is important that we continue to be respectful to all for the mask choice that they make.

Baby Hinderberger is due to enter the world this month and thus I will be on maternity leave beginning on April 11th.  The guest principal during my absence is Nancy Peel.  Mrs. Peel recently retired as the Auke Bay Elementary Principal and will finish out the school year with MRCS.  Please help me in welcoming Mrs. Peel to our school community.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact the office.

With gratitude,

JJ Hinderberger, Principal

Mendenhall River Community School
